About DQSC |
|
Dell Quay SC is a relaxed, friendly sailing club, a happy place for families, couples, and individuals to enjoy whichever type of sailing they prefer – racing, cruising, pottering, and rallying – in the sheltered waters of Chichester Harbour.
The club, founded in 1925, is set at one of the most picturesque locations in the harbour, with views from the clubroom and sun deck stretching southwards towards Birdham and the start of the Itchenor reach. While most activities, sailing and social, take place at weekends, members have access to the club at all times. The main club building houses a bar, lounge area, galley and changing rooms with hot showers, and there is also a historic warehouse providing a race office and workshop, and a spacious shed where safety boats and equipment are stored. There are berthing spaces for a large number of dinghies and a number of drying moorings for yachts.
Sailing events run from early spring to mid-winter, with racing for adults and juniors, a junior training week, the very active Women on the Water (WOW) group and cruiser rallies within the harbour, the Solent and as far afield as Brittany. Through these activities, and specific training sessions on safety boat handling, for example, the club encourages members to improve their knowledge and skills. DQSC also has a number of club dinghies - a Laser,3 RS Fevas, 4 Toppers, and 2 Wayfarers - as well as separate Radial and 4.7 rigs for trial on your own Laser, all for free use by members - see DQSC Club Boat Policy.
The comprehensive racing programme includes class and handicap series, several open events and the highlight of the season, the annual regatta.
DQSC is the closest sailing club to the city of Chichester, with the clubhouse and dinghy park situated next to the small village of Apuldram on the upper reaches of Chichester Harbour, one of England’s largest natural harbours. Its 22 square miles of water offer a variety of sailing conditions, from calm creeks to more bracing conditions near the harbour mouth, which gives access to the Solent and waters beyond. It is an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and a Site of Special Scientific Interest, where boating activity happily coexists with internationally important numbers of wild fowl which make their permanent or seasonal home in its diverse habitats.
