Club Racing 17th and 18th October |
Saturday proved very busy on the water at Dell Quay, with four races, a cruise and a group of juniors training for their RYA instructors qualification. Eight boats joined the inaugural outing of the Dell Quay Dingoes, a new group for anyone who wants to dinghy cruise, improve their sailing skills and meet more members but who do not particularly wish to become one of the regular racing fraternity. Meanwhile those with a more competitive outlook enjoyed good racing round the buoys in the top part of the harbour in a northerly force 3 to 4 wind. The Bosun Helmsman race was won convincingly by Chris Ede (Solo) who, despite being the slowest on handicap, led the fleet for much of the race and was only overtaken in the later stages of the race by the faster RS 200 sailed by Simon and Linda Bell and the Wayfarer of Richard Wilde and David Wakefield. Once the handicaps had been applied, Ede was comfortably ahead of Wilde and Wakefield who took second place, with Bill Munnery (Solo) third and the Bells fourth. In the Captain helmsman race, Anne and Jim Norfolk got away to a good start in their Laser 2000 and gradually extended their lead to take first place by over a minute on corrected time, with Ede second and Jean and Liz Sagues (Laser 2000) third. The two shorter Copperas series races aimed at those newer to racing were won by Ben Chrystall in his Laser radial with Simon Clarke and Clare Lang second in their Miracle in both races.
